Announcing: Rosetta: Second Edition

It is no secret that we love Rosetta: The Lost Language. We had a lovely time making it back in the old days, and we always knew it would return.

That time has come!

Rosetta: Second Edition is destined to release at Gen Con 2026, with limited preview and advance copies available at Origins Game Fair 2026. We will be playing it live with event attendees each time, so swing around to make your guesses and then return to see if things got solved!

Rosetta is our special language game, a cooperative experiment in communication and understanding. One player, the Author, will make up a translation for a fictional symbol or glyph, while the remaining 'Experts' collaborate to guess its meaning. If they are correct, all players win! More likely, though, is that they are wrong. Then it is up to the Author to (literally!) invent a new glyph, using bits of the target symbol in their creation to show how close the Experts got. Over several turns, bits of the target symbol will gain meaning, like 'person' or 'movement' or 'water', and a sense of understanding will magically build up over time. Make the right connections in time, and use extra abilities to your advantage, and you will come out victorious.

Rosetta: Second Edition is a vicious, unique puzzle, one that inspired our designs for Signal and Here Lies. It takes as short as 15 minutes, but discussions can last much longer, and is intended for older players. It plays 2+, and plays great online or even asynchronously in forums and chats. This version includes new symbols, locations, abilities, and extra notecards to help track what you have discovered. Additionally, we have a 'campaign book' of suggested set-ups to inspire new players, and reinvigorate old ones. Sprinkle in a few variable rules to help with difficulty, and the game has never shone brighter.

We hope you'll help us welcome this favorite of ours back into the world!
